The Rangers and Astros will open the 2013 major-league season at 7 p.m. March 31 in nationally televised game at Minute Made Park.
The Rangers' season opener had been scheduled for April 2 at Houston, the first of a three-game series. Now, the Rangers and Astros will play March 31, be off April 1 and resume the series April 2-3. April 4 becomes an off day ahead of the Rangers' home opener April 5 vs. Anaheim.
The game will mark the third time the Rangers have opened a major-league season, which they also did in 2001 and 2003.
