Adrian Beltre to debut today for Rangers, is hopeful for WBC second round

Manager Ron Washington has penciled Adrian Beltre into the Rangers' lineup for the first time this spring, and he will play third base and bat leadoff in an effort to sneak in an extra at-bat or two.

Beltre has been paced the spring after experiencing inflammation in his right calf. He has been a full-go in drills for about the past week, and on Sunday he took live batting practice against Alexi Ogando, among others.

If all goes well with his health and with the Dominican Republic this week in the first round of the World Baseball Classic, Beltre is prepared to join his country's team for the next round.

"If I feel good enough," said Beltre, who doesn't have any concern that he is behind schedule in getting ready for the regular season. "I don't really think about at-bats. It all depends on how I feel. It's about having that right feeling offensively. You have to have the balance."
