Texas A&M quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel threw out the first pitch prior to Sunday's Rangers-Angels game. He talked with Rangers CEO Nolan Ryan and manager Ron Washington before he took the mound and they offered the same advice -- don't bounce it.
Manziel accomplished that, although Mitch Moreland had to snag a high and outside pitch.
"That was too cool," Manziel said afterwards. "I don’t think I’ve been that nervous since the Heisman, but it was good. I didn’t bounce it and that was the biggest key."
Manziel grew up as a Rangers fan and said his favorite players were Ryan and Ivan Rodriguez. He met both Ryan and Rodriguez on Sunday, and hopes to one day meet another baseball hero of his, Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter.
