ARLINGTON – Justin Grimm came through with his third consecutive quality start, Mitch Moreland and David Murphy hit home runs and the Texas Rangers went on to a 9-5 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday afternoon.
Grimm held the D’backs scoreless the first five innings before giving up three runs (two earned) in the sixth. By that time, though, the Rangers had a comfortable lead.
The offense knocked Arizona starter Brandon McCarthy out before he could make it through three innings. They scored two runs in the second, and didn’t let up in the third inning with four runs, highlighted by Moreland’s two-run shot.
The Rangers scored three more runs against the D'backs' bullpen. Murphy had a solo shot in the fourth, and Elvis Andrus had a two-run single in the fifth.
Grimm earned his fifth win of the season. Michael Kirkman started the seventh, but struggled. He gave up two runs over two-thirds of an inning, as Neal Cotts got the final out of the seventh and worked a scoreless eighth.
Robbie Ross worked the ninth.
