Blue Jays 7, Rangers 2 (F)

Chien-Ming Wang scattered seven hits in seven scoreless innings, and J.P Arencibia, Colby Rasmus and Adam Lind hit home runs as Toronto completed a four-game sweep of the Rangers with a 7-2 victory.

The four-game home sweep is the first of its kind for the Rangers since Baltimore pulled the feat July 8-11, 2010, and the six-game losing streak is the Rangers’ first since April 15-21, 2010. But it’s the first six-game skid on a single homestand since June 19-24, 1997.

The Rangers went 1 for 8 with runners in scoring position and finished the series 2 for 24. The one Sunday was an infield single by Elvis Andrus with two outs in the ninth. The next batter, Ian Kinsler, drew a bases-loaded walk.

Their best chance came in the fourth inning, when Adrian Beltre reached third with one out. But Nelson Cruz’s sharp liner was snagged by a diving Edwin Encarnacion at third base, and David Murphy flied out to left field.

Derek Holland (5-4) allowed four runs on 10 hits in six-plus innings. He allowed Arencibia’s two-run homer in the second and Rasmus’ solo shot to start the fourth. Rasmus homered in the fourth inning in each of the final three games in the series.

Kyle McClellan offered no relief after taking over for Holland in the seventh following a leadoff double by Melky Cabrera. Jose Bautista collected an RBI single, Encarnacion walked, and Lind launched a homer into the Rangers’ bullpen.
