Jurickson Profar keeps roster spot as Rangers activate Ian Kinsler

The decision to reinstate Ian Kinsler from the 15-day disabled list came a day earlier than expected, and the decision to keep Jurickson Profar on the roster came, in part, after the rookie proved his worth to the team's veteran infielders.

Kinsler is off the DL after only two games on rehab assignment and was in the lineup as the Rangers' leadoff hitter Saturday. Profar was not in the lineup, but manager Ron Washington said that the game's top prospect will play more than the previous utility infielder, Leury Garcia.

There is no set number of games Profar will play, but he will see time at second base, shortstop, third base and possibly the outfield, even though he hasn't played there since Little League.

"He's earned a lot of credibility in that clubhouse," Washington said. "He's one of our best 25."

Garcia is the one who lost his big-league roster spot to make room for Kinsler. The Rangers optioned Garcia to Triple A Round Rock.

Kinsler went 0 for 8 with a walk in two games for Double A Frisco and played all 12 innings of the RoughRiders' loss Friday. He said that he has no issues with the stress reaction in his ribcage that he suffered May 16.

"I'm ready to go," he said. "I'm healthy, and I can play. There's no point in playing nine innings in Double A when I can play nine innings here."
