With runners on the corners in the fourth, Toronto center fielder Colby Rasmus put the Blue Jays ahead 3-0 with his home run to right center field. Rasmus’ 11th of the year came on an 0-2 pitch from Grimm. One pitch later, third baseman Maicer Izturis extended the Toronto lead to four with his home run that landed in the Blue Jays’ bullpen.
Perhaps the Rangers’ highlight of the night came in the fifth, when left fielder Leonys Martin gunned out Toronto’s Adam Lind at second base to end the inning. But that didn’t occur before Edwin Encarnacion crossed home plate to stretch the lead to 5-0.
In the sixth, home plate umpire Eric Cooper ejected Elvis Andrus for arguing balls and strikes, cutting short another frustrating night for the Rangers’ shortstop.
In 7 innings of work, Toronto starting pitcher Mark Buehrle allowed four hits and struck out seven.
The loss was Texas’ fourth straight.
