Martin Perez to start Saturday; Yu Darvish pushed back to Tuesday

ARLINGTON – The Texas Rangers announced that Martin Perez will start Saturday against St. Louis, and Nick Tepesch will be pushed back a day to Sunday.

That means Yu Darvish will get a few extra days and start on Tuesday when the Rangers open a three-game series at Yankee Stadium.

So the rotation for the St. Louis series will be Derek Holland on Friday, Perez on Saturday and Tepesch on Sunday. Darvish will throw Tuesday, and then it would be Justin Grimm's turn in the rotation.

Josh Lindblom isn't an option, as the Rangers will option him back to Triple A Round Rock to clear a spot for Mitch Moreland on Friday.

Perez has gone 4-0 with a 1.13 ERA in four starts since his season debut on the front end of a doubleheader at Arizona. In that game, Perez gave up nine hits and four runs in 51/3 innings of a 5-3 Rangers loss.

Manager Ron Washington said the team is simply riding the hot hand by inserting Perez into the rotation, and wanted to keep him on his normal rest and give a couple extra days to Darvish.
