Newsy Monday at Yankee Stadium.
Nelson Cruz: The right fielder said that he hasn't spoke with MLB investigators his first two days in New York, and also said that his lawyers advised him to not comment on when he will. But he also said that once he does meet with MLB investigators, he will address the media.
While a 50-game suspension is a possibility for Cruz's ties to the Biogenesis anti-aging clinic, general manager Jon Daniels said that the Rangers haven't yet targeted a possible Cruz replacement. "You can't be out there trying to acquire somebody based on media reports," Daniels said.
Jurickson Profar: The utility man hasn't played since Thursday and likely isn't going to play until Thursday, said manager Ron Washington. The primary reason for his long layoff is the three-game series at St. Louis, where the designated hitter rule wasn't used. Washington wasn't going to sit Ian Kinsler, Adrian Beltre or Elvis Andrus.
"I'll start to mix him in games as we move forward," Washington said.
Lance Berkman: The designated hitter is in the lineup Tuesday after also not playing since Wednesday after a cortisone shot and for rest for his right knee and lower back. Neither is a concern, he said, because "I don't have a significant injury."
The Rangers will monitor him on a daily basis. Washington said that Berkman could have Thursday off, and the Rangers are aware that he will have to have a steady diet of days off to keep him productive.
Joakim Soria: The reliever will make his third rehab appearance Wednesday and could be reinstated from the disabled list before the All-Star break, said Daniels. The fact that Soria will be returning and Neftali Feliz, who is throwing a bullpen Wednesday but isn't yet throwing breaking pitches, could be back in August could keep the Rangers from pursuing a reliever via a trade.
"[The bullpen] as been the strongest unit on the team so far," Daniels said.
Tuesday bonus updates: Jeff Baker hit off a tee for the first time since suffering a sprained right thumb. ... Alexi Ogando threw a bullpen session and could be close to a rehab assignment. ... Colby Leiws and Matt Harrison long-tossed.
