Rangers notes: Story behind Lance Berkman's sore knee, injury updates

Lance Berkman is out of tonight's Rangers lineup because of an odd way he injured his knee on Thursday night.

Berkman slipped and banged his knee while getting off the team airplane, and woke up with it sore today. He has started only two of the past eight games, but is still available to pinch hit.

Berkman had two surgeries on his right knee last season, and said recently that he still has trouble straightening it completely out when he bats from the left side.

Here are a few other notes from today:

* Colby Lewis is throwing a bullpen session today and will then determine the next step. It will likely be at least one more bullpen session before progressing to live batting practice and then going on a medical rehabilitaiton assignment.

* Matt Harrison is playing catch and is about 2-3 weeks away from getting back on a mound. He won't begin a rehab assignment for at least another month, and is still hoping to come back at some point in August.

* Neftali Feliz is doing well in Arizona, throwing three bullpen sessions a week. His timetable to return as a reliever in the big leagues remains middle of August.

* Alexi Ogando is throwing a bullpen session today and, depending on how it goes, could throw a live batting practice early next week. After that, he could be cleared for a rehab assignment.
