Outfielder Craig Gentry was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Rangers on Sunday with a non-displaced fracture in his left hand, and center fielder Engel Beltre was recalled from Triple A Round Rock.
Gentry had been bothered by pain since getting hit by a pitch Tuesday and had been unable to grip a bat. X-rays were negative, but an MRI exam Saturday revealed the small fracture. Gentry played as a defensive substitution Thursday in the ninth inning, bobbling a Seth Smith single but starting a relay that resulted in the potential tying run, Josh Donaldson, getting thrown out at home to end the game.
Beltre was the hottest hitter at Round Rock this month, hitting .355 with all four of his homers this season. He had hits in 10 of his last 12 at-bats before being promoted for his major-league debut.
