The Texas Rangers selected Alex Gonzalez, a right-hander out of Oral Roberts, with the 23rd overall pick in this year's First-Year Player Draft.
Gonzalez is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound righty who was an 11th round pick by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2011 draft. He went 9-5 with a 1.83 ERA over 15 starts this season with Oral Roberts, including two perfect games. He had 126 strikeouts to only 27 walks over 113 1/3 innings.
He provides another arm in the farm system that projects as a middle of the rotation starter.
