Indians 6, Rangers 0 (F)

CLEVELAND – The Texas Rangers’ offense continued its downward spiral on Sunday, and did something that hadn’t been done since 2009.

The Rangers were shut out for a second consecutive game in a 6-0 loss to the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field. The Indians completed a three-game sweep of the Rangers in Cleveland for the first time since 1980.

The Rangers have lost eight of 10 since the All-Star break, and could fall to six games back to the A’s in the American League West race if the A’s beat the Angels later today.

Alexi Ogando made his second start since coming off the disabled list, and opened with four scoreless innings. He couldn’t get through the fifth, though, allowing a run on an RBI single to Jason Kipnis.

Robbie Ross entered and got the final out of the fifth, but then gave up three runs in the sixth. Yan Gomes had a two-out RBI single, and Michael Bourn followed with a two-run double.

That was more than enough for the Indians and starter Ubaldo Jimenez. Jimenez held the Rangers to two hits over eight innings, and Vinnie Pestano pitched a scoreless ninth.
