Rangers not expecting to complete Matt Garza deal Friday night

Rangers officials aren't expecting a proposed deal for Cubs right-hander Matt Garza to be completed Friday night -- one said that a deal might not get done at all -- after some in the organization thought the deal was close enough to get done Thursday.

The hope had been that Garza would be acquired in time to start Saturday against Baltimore, but he threw a bullpen session in Colorado in preparation for his scheduled start Monday. Ross Wolf will start as scheduled for the Rangers.

But the deal was held up. Medical reports reportedly were exchanged, though a Rangers official did not confirm if a health issue had been discovered on either side. Negotiations are expected to continue, but the Cubs reportedly have engaged another interested team.

All hands reportedly involved in the package of prospects the Rangers were to ship to the Cubs were in their rightful places Friday night. Third baseman Mike Olt batted sixth and played third base for Triple A Round Rock; right-hander Neil Ramirez was the starting pitcher for Double A Frisco; shortstop Luis Sardinas was in the lineup for Class A Myrtle Beach; and right-hander C.J. Edwards was the subject of some good-natured ribbing by his teammates at Class A Hickory.
