Alexi Ogando surrendered three home runs, including two to Scooter Gennett in Milwaukee's 5-1 victory Tuesday in the first of a two-game series at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
Gennett recorded the first multi-homer game in his first major-league season with his third and fourth home runs of the season, a solo shot in the third and another that also scored Logan Schafer in the fifth.
Kris Davis hit another to left in the seventh. The Brewers added an insurance run in the eighth when Jean Segura stole home on a botched rundown by the Rangers.
Ogando gave up four runs on six hits over 6 1/3 innings in falling to 5-4. Ogando struck out three and walked two.
Marco Estrada (5-4) earned the victory for Milwaukee.
The Rangers' lead in the AL West fell to a half-game. Oakland is playing late against the Astros.
Mitch Moreland's 17th home run of the season accounted for the Rangers' lone run. Moreland was 2-for-2 with a single in the fifth.
The Rangers loaded the bases in the eighth with one out, but Elvis Andrus struck out and Ian Kinsler's soft liner to third ended the threat.
Kinsler had one hit in four at-bats. Leonys Martin had two hits for the Rangers.
Texas' 3-6 hitters went 2-for-15. Adrian Beltre was 0-for-3 with walk and A.J. Pierzynski was 0-for-4 with a strikeout.
