Joey Butler optioned to Round Rock to clear spot for Alex Rios

Joey Butler made his first career start Friday, and went 2 for 3 with two doubles and drew a pivotal walk to load the bases in the eighth inning.

But his brief stint has come to an end, as the Texas Rangers optioned him back to Triple A Round Rock this afternoon to clear spot for newly acquired outfielder Alex Rios.

Butler was called up on Monday, made his big-league debut as a pinch-hitter Wednesday and started Friday. He was batting .290 with 10 home runs and 44 RBIs with the Express when he was called up.

Rios is expected to start in right field and bat sixth for the Rangers tonight. He was batting .277 with 12 home runs and 55 RBIs with the White Sox.
