Texas sent 15 hitters to the plate in an 11-run third inning in battering the Astros with a season-high run total in a 16-5 on Monday night at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
A.J. Pierzynski was 4-for-4 with four RBIs, including two hits and three RBI in the third.
Mitch Moreland had a two-run double and Ian Kinsler drove in two runs with a single in his second at-bat of the third.
The Rangers also used two errors that led to five unearned runs against Houston starter Lucas Harrell (6-14).
Matt Garza earned his third victory with the Rangers and improved to 9-2 on the season with a 3.61 ERA. Since joining the Rangers in a trade from the Chicago Cubs, Garza is 3-1 with a 4.37 ERA.
In all, six Rangers had hits and RBIs in the third inning and all nine in the lineup scored at least once. Leonys Martin (hit and walk), Elvis Andrus (hit and reached on an error) and Pierzynski all reached safely twice in the inning.
Martin was 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
The Astros scored four times in the seventh to chase Garza. -- John Henry
