Rangers release Manny Ramirez from minor-league deal

Veteran slugger Manny Ramirez won't be playing for the Rangers this season after they released him from his Triple A contract so that he can pursue other opportunities. Ramirez did not ask for the release.

Ramirez,41, his three homers in his eight games with Round Rock but hasn't homered since. He finished with a .259 average and 13 RBIs in 30 games.

"Based on our evaluation there was not a spot for Manny on the club at this time," general manager Jon Daniels said. "We released him so he could pursue other opportunities."
