The Rangers have told senior director of player development Tim Purpura that he will be reassigned within the organization before next season, according to two baseball sources.
Purpura was hired in 2011 to head the farm system after Scott Servais left to become an assistant general manager with the Angels. Purpura previously was the general manager for Astros from 2004 to 2007.
The Rangers have not made an announcement on the reassignment or announced a replacement, and typically announce any shuffling within the organization in the off-season. General manager Jon Daniels declined to comment on the Purpura move, but said that the evaluation process for 2014 is under way.
"It's the time of year when we're evalutating everything," Daniels said. "We're always looking to improve. Scouting and development is the lifeblood of the organization."
