The Rangers announced a few items today:
* Jeff Baker has been designated for assignment to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Matt West, who is being activated off the 60-day disabled list so he can participate in the Arizona Fall League. The move is procedural, as Baker will become a free agent once this year's World Series ends.
West, a right-handed pitcher, spent the majority of the season at High A Myrtle Beach continuing his rehab from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery. The Fall League began Tuesday, and West is one of seven Ranger minor leaguers on the Surprise Saguaros, joining pitchers Ryan Harvey, Will Lambe and Nick McBride, catcher Jorge Alfaro and infielders Brett Nicholas and Ryan Rua.
* Craig Gentry has been named the Rangers' player of the month for September. The outfielder batted .354 with 10 stolen bases, 10 runs, two doubles, a triple and five RBIs. His 10 steals in September were tied for the American League lead, while the .354 average ranked second in the league.
