The Texas Rangers received outfielder Alex Castellanos on a waiver claim from the Boston Red Sox on Monday.
Castellanos, who can play all three outfield positions as well as third base and second base, has appeared in a total of 24 major-league games the past two seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Red Sox acquired the 27-year-old through an Oct. 23 trade, but designated him for assignment on Dec. 12 to clear a roster spot once Mike Napoli re-signed with the team.
With the move, the Rangers now have a full 40-man roster. They will need to clear a spot once the seven-year, $130 million deal they agreed to with free agent Shin-Soo Choo on Saturday becomes official.
