Adrian Beltre talks about off-season additions, Holland's injury

Adrian Beltre is in town for the Rangers’ awards dinner tonight and the Fan Fest on Saturday.

He met with reporters before the event and touched on a variety of topics, saying he is fully healthy and ready to go for spring training. Here are the highlights:

On the additions of Prince Fielder and Shin-Soo Choo: “It’s going to be great. I think that bringing in Prince and having Choo in front of the lineup is going to be really great for us, especially giving us more balance. It’s a big loss in Ian [Kinsler], but in time I think the bats we added is going to be really good for us.”

On batting cleanup: “As long as I’m in the lineup, I’m OK. I don’t know what suits me best. I don’t keep track. When I see my name in the lineup, I’m OK as long as I have a little protection.”

On protecting Fielder, who has protected the last three MVP winners: “He’s going to get the MVP. It’s his time. My job is to protect him now so he can do it.”

On Derek Holland’s injury: “Obviously sad what happened to Holland … we have to find some help and try to find a way until he gets back. We can’t sit here and start crying about it. We’re going to need him more in the end than the beginning.”

On this year’s team being better equipped than last year’s: “I hope so. On paper it looks better. We all have to as a team get out there and do our job and try to win ballgames.”

On if he enjoys his time off: “I do and I don’t. Of course I want to be back on the field and playing because I love playing, but at the same time vacation is going to be over soon and you won’t see your family as much. It’s bittersweet, but I can’t wait to get back on the field.”
