Fort Worth resident Mark Brooks' opening 67 looks even better upon deeper examination than it does on the surface. Brooks rebounded from a double-bogey at No. 13, where he put his tee shot in a greenfront pond, to post consecutive birdies at Nos. 16 and 17 to get back to 3-under.
Brooks posted five birdies in his opening round, including a chip-in birdie from 20 feet at No. 7.
