Whoever wins the 2008 title at the Fort Worth Junior Golf Association's City Boys Championship will put his name on the trophy with a handful of players who are currently pulling down regular paychecks in professional golf circles.
A brief history lesson about Fort Worth's past city champions:
-- The 1976 champ, Mark Brooks, is in his 26th season as a competitor on the PGA Tour. He's won seven titles, including the 1996 PGA Championship. Brooks has earned more than $9 million in his career as a PGA Tour participant.
-- Hunter Haas, a two-time champion (1994, 1995), is a member of the Nationwide Tour who finished fifth at last week's event in Canada. He's spent two full seasons on the PGA Tour (2001, 2005) and has competed on the Nationwide Tour for the past three years.
-- Terry Snodgrass, the 1975 champ, is a rookie on the 2008 Champions Tour.
-- Adam Rubinson, the 1996 champ, competed on the 2007 Nationwide Tour and remains active in professional golf.
-- Lindy Miller, the 1973 champ, is the head golf pro at Mira Vista and has played occasionally in Champions Tour events in recent years.
Deadlines for entries to the boys championship close on July 7, with the tournament scheduled July 14-17. For more information, consult www.fwjga.net.
