Vince Jewell, a club pro from Euless who qualified to compete in the PGA Championship, will miss today's cut after posting a second-round 78. Jewell, who fired an opening 85, finished 23-over par through 36 holes at Oakland Hills Country Club.
He joins a long list of touring pros from Tarrant County who also failed to make the cut at the seaon's final major championship. The list includes Ben Crane (15-over), Chad Campbell (12-over), J.J. Henry (10-over) and Mark Brooks (10-over).
As of 3:30 p.m. (CDT), it appears the only golfers with Tarrant County connections who will earn weekend tee times at the PGA will be Fort Worth resident Rory Sabbatini (5-over) and Westlake resident Todd Hamilton (6-over, with three holes remaining in his second round).
The course is playing difficult for a second consecutive day, with J.B. Holmes holding the lead at 2-under through 36 holes.
