Several golfers with Tarrant County connections have entered Monday's sectional qualifier in Aledo to try and earn berths in the U.S. Senior Amateur, Sept. 20-25 at Shady Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth.
One notable competitor at Split Rail Links and Golf Club in Aledo will be Denny Alexander, a Shady Oaks member who is the tournament chairman for next month's U.S. Amateur. If Alexander qualifies to compete on his home course, the brunt of his tournament week duties will be passed along to others.
Another golfer to watch in Aledo will be John Grace, a Fort Worth resident and former member of the European Seniors Tour. Grace, a member of Mira Vista Golf Club, had his amateur status reinstated after leaving the European circuit. Grace is a former Shady Oaks member who frequently played rounds with the late Ben Hogan during the 1970s and 1980s.
