Vince Jewell, a club pro from Euless, posted an 85 this morning at the end of a rain-delayed opening round at the PGA Championship. He will need to make up several strokes in his second round, which begins at 8:35 a.m. (CDT) today, if he is going to make the weekend cut in his debut at one of golf's major championships.
Jewell, 37, posted the third-highest score in the opening round of any competitor at Oakland Hills Country Club. A former New Mexico State golfer, Jewell is an assistant golf pro at Brook Hollow Golf Club in Dallas and earned his spot in the field at the PGA by finishing in the top 20 of the PGA club pros' national-championship event in June.
