Toni Wiesner, a Fort Worth resident and acclaimed amateur golfer whose victories included the 1997 British Senior Women’s Amateur, died Monday. She was 62.
Wiesner, a TCU graduate, finished as runner-up at the USGA Senior Women’s Open on three occasions, including 2008. In 12 appearances at the event, Wiesner won 40 matches, second-most in tournament history.
A four-time participant in the U.S. Women’s Open, Wiesner won multiple titles during her amateur career. The list includes the 1980 West Texas Women's Amateur, 1981 Southern Women's Amateur, 1989 Broadmoor Invitational and 1993 Doherty Cup. Wisener claimed two titles at the Mexican Women’s Amateur (1982, 1991) as well as five titles at the Women’s Texas Golf Association State Championship (1985, 1989, 1990, 1993, 2003).
Teaming with partner Carol Semple Thompson, Wiesner won the International Four Ball event twice (1987, 1992) and was a 14-time champion at the Dallas Morning News Tournament of Champions.
During her career, she made 11 holes-in-one.
An advocate for Special Olympics golf, Wiesner served as a member of the USGA Junior Girls’ golf committee. She is survived by her husband, Robert; her brother, James Holley, and his wife, Sue, of Keene, N.H. Funeral arrangements were pending Tuesday.
