Officials at the Dublin Historical Society have approved creation of the Ben Hogan Legacy Museum, which will honor the late golf legend and longtime Fort Worth resident who was born in Dublin in 1912.
Hogan, a Hall of Fame golfer whose 64 PGA Tour victories included nine major championships and five Colonial titles, lived in Dublin until moving to Fort Worth when he was nine. Hogan remained a Fort Worth resident until his death in 1997.
The Ben Hogan Legacy Museum will display memorabilia furnished by Hogan’s heirs and is slated to be the sole occupant of the Lyon-Prim Special Events Center in downtown Dublin. The restored structure, which bears a Texas Historical Marker, was built in the 1880s.
The project, announced today, has the support of the Fort Worth-based Ben Hogan Foundation. Plans call for the museum to be open within the next few months. More details will be provided at an Aug. 15 kickoff event, which includes a $50 per plate dinner at the Dublin Rotary Building.
