For a second consecutive season, the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial ranked among the top three events on the PGA Tour in terms of charitable donations in 2009.
Colonial officials distributed $5.1 million in charitable donations from last year’s event, making Fort Worth’s tour stop one of three tournaments that topped the $5 million mark last season, based on information released by tour officials.
During a 2009 season marked by $108 million in charitable donations, tour officials cited the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio as the lone event to reach the $8 million mark. Two tournaments topped $5 million _ Colonial and the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
The HP Byron Nelson Championship, which raised $4.4 million for local charities last year, ranked among the top eight events on the 2009 PGA Tour. Irving’s tour stop was one of five tournaments to raise between $4 million and $5 million last season.
