For the first time, fans watching weekend telecasts of the 2010 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial will be able to watch live action on front-nine holes, based on television schedules released today.
Colonial will be one of 12 stops on this year’s PGA Tour slated for 90 minutes of extended live coverage on the Golf Channel prior to the start of CBS’ weekend television windows (2-5 p.m.) for Saturday and Sunday rounds. The extended weekend windows are set for noon to 1:30 p.m. each day and remain subject to change, depending on weather-related complications during the May 24-30 event in Fort Worth.
But the bottom line, said Colonial tournament director Peter Ripa, is that Colonial’s signature stretch of holes _ the Horrible Horseshoe (Nos. 3-5) _ should soon draw live coverage as network cameras follow the leaders during weekend rounds. That has not been the case in past years, with live coverage joining the leaders’ rounds in progress because of the later TV windows.
“This will be the first time for viewers to see the leaders play the front nine holes … and tee off in front of the Wall of Champions (at No. 1),” Ripa said. “How cool is that?”
