Three PGA Tour competitors from Tarrant County _ J.J. Henry, Chad Campbell and Ryan Palmer _ are on pace to qualify for the U.S. Open at the midpoint of today’s sectional qualifier in suburban Memphis. And a fourth, Greg Chalmers, is just one stroke off the pace.
Henry, a Fort Worth resident and former TCU golfer, posted a 5-under par 66 in his first of two rounds at the 36-hole qualifier that will send 12 golfers to next week’s U.S. Open in Pebble Beach, Calif. Henry was tied for second place after the first round of the qualifier.
Campbell and Palmer, a pair of Colleyville residents, stood in a tie for eighth after opening rounds of 67. Chalmers, a Colleyville resident, posted an opening 68 and headed into his second round in a tie for 16th.
The top 12 finishers from the Memphis qualifier will compete in the U.S. Open, June 17-20.
