Lee Trevino, a six-time major champion and member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, received the Distinguished Sportsman Award from members of Colonial Country Club in a Thursday night ceremony.
Trevino, a Dallas resident and two-time winner of Fort Worth’s annual PGA Tour event at Colonial, became the fifth recipient of the club’s Distinguished Sportsman Award, created in 1990 to honor elite golfers and other outstanding individuals in athletics. Other recipients have included Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Harvey Penick and Gary Player.
Trevino finished his PGA Tour career with 29 titles, including two at Colonial (1976, 1978). His list of major championships include two U.S. Opens, two British Opens and two PGA Championships. Trevino was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1981.
