LSU golfer John Peterson, a Fort Worth Paschal graduate, joins U.S. Amateur champ Peter Uihlein and Texas golfer Bobby Hudson on the 26-player watch list for the 2011 Ben Hogan Award.
The award, given annually to the nation’s top college golfer, will be presented May 16 as part of tournament week activities at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.
The watch list, released today by award organizers, also includes two Hogan Award finalists from last year _ Alabama’s Bud Cauley and Georgia’s Russell Henley _ as well as three golfers from Oklahoma State: Uihlein, Morgan Hoffman and Kevin Tway, son of Champions Tour competitor Bob Tway.
Uihlein, a junior, is ranked No. 1 in the latest Scratch Players World Amateur Ranking. Other members of the watch list ranked among the top five players in the world amateur ranking are Stanford’s David Chung (No. 2), Illinois’ Scott Langley (No. 4) and Henley (No. 5).
Peterson, a senior, is the first player with Fort Worth connections to be in the Hogan Award mix since Adam Rubinson, a former Paschal and TCU golfer, was a semifinalist in 2003. The 26-player watch list will be trimmed April 14 to a list of semifinalists, with the top three finalists invited to Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth for a live announcement of the winner on May 16.
