Fort Worth resident Mark Brooks, a seven-time winner on the PGA Tour, will make his debut as a Champions Tour participant in Friday’s opening round of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Resort Classic.
Brooks turned 50 on March 25, making him eligible to compete on the Champions Tour, and has added his name to the commitment list for the $1.6 million event in Biloxi, Miss. Brooks will join Jim Gallagher, Jr. among this week’s group of golfers making their Champions Tour debuts in quest of a $240,000 winner’s check at the 54-hole event.
Brooks is best known as the winner of the 1996 PGA Championship, his lone major title and one of three victories during a 1996 season in which Brooks finished third on the PGA Tour’s season money list ($1,429,396).
Brooks, a graduate of Richland High School and the University of Texas, has not posted a tour triumph since the 1996 PGA but has earned more than $9.4 million as a PGA Tour participant. He was enshrined in October as a member of the Texas Golf Hall of Fame.
