Officials at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial have selected Jarrod Lyle and Daniel Summerhays as their Champions’ Choice participants in next month’s PGA Tour event, May 16-22 in Fort Worth.
Both golfers, who were added to the field today after a vote by past Colonial champions, will be making their Colonial debuts. Tournament officials reserve two sponsor’s exemptions each year for promising newcomers, with the competitors determined in balloting by past Colonial winners.
Lyle, 29, earned his spot on the 2011 PGA Tour by finishing fifth at last year’s PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament. Summerhays, 27, finished fifth on the 2010 Nationwide Tour money list.
Lyle, a two-time winner on the Nationwide Tour, is a survivor of acute myeloid leukemia. He was diagnosed with the disease in 1999, when he was 17. His best PGA Tour finish of the season is a tie for fifth at the Mayakoba Classic.
Summerhays, a PGA Tour rookie, is the nephew of Champions Tour competitor Bruce Summerhays. His best PGA Tour finish of the season is a tie for 11th at the Bob Hope Classic.
