Tom Lehman, the 1995 Colonial champ and leading money winner on the 2011 Champions Tour ($743,595), has become the eighth past champion who plays on the 50-and-over circuit to join the field for the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, May 16-22 in Fort Worth.
Lehman, 52, is following the lead of Ben Crenshaw, Kenny Perry, Corey Pavin, Fulton Allem, Olin Browne, David Frost and Keith Clearwater.
The Champions Tour does not have an event during Colonial week on its 2011 schedule and all Colonial champions crowned before 2000 received lifetime invitations to compete in Fort Worth.
The latest additions to the field gives Colonial 83 commitments, including three of the top 13 players in the world golf rankings: No. 9 Steve Stricker, No. 10 Matt Kuchar and No. 13 Jim Furyk. Notable commitments announced today include Brendan Steele, a PGA Tour rookie who earned his first career title in Sunday’s final round at the Valero Texas Open, and Rickie Fowler, the No. 34 player in the world golf rankings and the 2010 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year.
Other recent additions to the field include Colleyville resident Chad Campbell, Bill Haas, Steve Marino, Michael Bradley, Keegan Bradley, and Chris Kirk.
