Officials from the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial distributed $4.66 million in charitable donations today that were raised by the tournament’s Birdies For Charity campaign in May.
The total, divided between 31 local non-profit organizations, placed Fort Worth’s annual PGA Tour stop among the top two tour events in terms of charitable donations raised by the Birdies For Charity campaign for a third consecutive year. The $4.66 million figure represents a large percentage, but not all, of the charitable donations raised by the 2011 tournament. Additional proceeds will be distributed next month.
Colonial hit the $4.66 million figure by eliciting pledges based on total birdies made at the 2011 tournament, which produced 1,268 birdies by competitors.
“It’s thrilling to see our community support the Birdies campaign,” said Colonial tournament chairman Chuck Scherer. “To be the best such campaign on tour speaks to the giving nature of our community.”
