TCU golfer Julien Brun and Texas teammates Dylan Frittelli and Jordan Spieth are among the 10 semifinalists for the 2012 Ben Hogan Award, given to the nation’s top college golfer.
Others semifinalists for the award, announced today, include UCLA’s Patrick Cantlay, Auburn’s Blayne Barber, Clemson’s Corbin Mills, Washington’s Cheng-Tsung Pan, Stanford’s Patrick Rodgers, Alabama’s Justin Thomas and Washington’s Chris Williams.
The list of semifinalists will be pared May 10 to three finalists, with the winner to be announced in a live award ceremony May 21 as part of tournament week activities at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.
The list of semifinalists includes one senior, three juniors, one sophomore and a record five freshmen. Included among the mix is Cantlay, a finalist for the 2011 Hogan Award who finished as the low amateur at last week’s Masters Tournament, and two other past semifinalists (Barber, 2011 and Frittelli, 2010).
Each of the top five players in the lastest Golfweek/Sagarin individual college rankings made the semifinals, as well as seven of the top 10.
The award has been presented in Fort Worth every year since 2002. Last year’s winner was Oklahoma State golfer Peter Uihlein.
