Arlington resident Bearrie selected as Texas Golf Association player of the year

Arlington resident John Bearrie has been selected as the Statewide Player of the Year in the Texas Golf Association, officials announced Tuesday. Bearrie, 43, won the 2012 Texas Mid-Amateur championship and teamed with partner Aaron Hickman to win the 2012 State Four-Ball title. A two-time North Regional player of the year (2008, 2010), Bearrie also was a quarterfinalist in the 2012 State Mid-Amateur Match Play event.

Other TGA honorees included Mike Booker (Senior Player of the Year), Mike Calef (North Regional Player of the Year) and John Dowdall (South Regional Player of the Year).

The winners in each category are selected by the TGA Championship Committee, based on a performance points system for top finishes in designated regional, statewide and USGA national championships. Below is a look at each of the honorees, provided by TGA officials:
