TCU golfer Julien Brun, a finalist for the 2013 Ben Hogan Award, earned a sponsor’s exemption into the field at the 2014 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial by capturing top individual honors at the Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship in Trinity, Texas.
Brun won a five-man playoff with a two-putt par on the third extra hole Saturday to secure a spot in Fort Worth’s annual PGA Tour event, May 19-25 at Colonial Country Club. Brun, a junior from Antibes, France, posted a 54-hole score of 14-under par in the rain-shortened event before claiming the Colonial berth in the playoff.
“The Colonial is right in your backyard,” Brun said. “I get to play there once a week, and this sponsor’s exemption is something I’ve been talking about since they told us about it. I’m really excited about it.”
Brun led France (27-under par) to a second-place finish in the four-player, team competition. The U.S. claimed the team title with a 33-under total for 54 holes.
