The total came from donations by fans during tournament week, as well the tournament’s title sponsor and professional golfer Rickie Fowler, who appears in Crowne Plaza advertisement and pledged to personally match the dollars raised by fans at the tournament, which ended on May 26.
The $166,000 total will be directed to tornado relief efforts in multiple locations. Colonial’s donation will be made to the local Fort Worth Red Cross chapter, designating the funds for tornado relief. Fowler is making a donation directly to the Oklahoma tornado relief efforts. Fowler attended Oklahoma State, located roughly 70 miles from where the most violent storms struck in Moore, Okla.
“We are happy to be able to support the Red Cross in the incredible efforts they are undertaking to assist the victims of those terrible storms,” Colonial tournament chairman Bobby Patton said. “And we are grateful to all our volunteers, spectators and partners who stepped up to help make this happen in such a short timeframe.”
