Props to the Frogs basketball team for the crowd, and the game

Photo-1FORT WORTH - Despite brutal temperatures and multiple seasons worth of reasons not to go, the TCU men's basketball team actually drew a decent crowd for its Big 12 preview game on Tuesday night against Texas Tech.

The Frogs defeated the Techies, 75-69. The announced crowd was 6,290 ... not sure if I totally buy that figure but, who cares? Go with it. It was the best environment for a men's basketball game at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in years. Students actually showed up.

This was the largest crowd for a non-conference game since 7,218 Nov. 23, 2004.

This is the best team Jim Christian has had in his four seasons at TCU. OK, maybe that's not saying a lot but the team plays unselfishly, plays hard and guards pretty well.

The Frogs are 7-2; this is their best start since the 2000-'01 season.

Conversely, Tech is 4-4 under first year coach Billy Gillispie. Former Red Raiders coach Pat Knight did him no favors by leaving Billy Clyde a roster that isn't very good.

Maybe TCU can keep this up. The Frogs host Nebraska (4-3) on Saturday at 7 and then play at USC (4-5) on Dec. 19 in L.A.

I give Tech basketball credit as well. At least they didn't back out of the game.
