A FW/d throwback to the Texans & Blackhawks : A hockey series between 2 local teams

048For FW/d people who have been around these parts long enough they remember a day when "pro hockey" did not mean NHL. It meant the minor leagues, and the Fort Worth Texans and Dallas Blackhawks.

Both franchises have long since ceased, but today we have something going in these here parts that vaguely resembles the very few playoffs series that existed between the Texans and Blackhawks back in the '70s.

Thanks to Texas Brahmas president Mike Barack, one of the hardest working men in local sports (not kidding; this dude hasn't slept since '94), he gave me the 4-1-1 on the following:

The Brahmas of the Central Hockey League continue their first-round playoff series against the Allen Americans at the NYTex Sports Centre in North Richland Hills with Game 3 at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night. Game 4 is 7:30 p.m. Friday night. The series is currently tied at 1.

There are team autograph cards for the first 500 fans for Game 3. The first 1,000 in the building for Game 4 receive free thunderstix that can serve as solid noisemakers during the game, and can endlessly annoy your parents, neighbors, or other loved ones.

These games are actually pretty fun, a fairly inexpensive entertainment alternative, plus the fights can be just brutal.

Thanks for mentioning the Brahmas/Americans series Mac! Hockey fans who want to see some great family entertainment at an affordable price and also a rivaly that easily matches the intensity of the old Texans/Blackhawks days should come out to the NYTEX Sports Centre on Wednesday and/or Friday. I guarantee they won't regret it. Check out if you'd like to see some photos of Brahmas hockey.

Mac we are so happy to see your Blog about the playoff series, Brahmas versus the Allen Americans. Sometimes I think we are a lot like "The Little Engine That Could". We hear a lot of,"I think I can, I think I can." Our guys need the kind of info you guys put out for our fans. We just love it when you and the ST write or post about our team. The url is to our Brahmas Board.
It is a place we love to tell our story. This year feels a lot like the olden days in Fort Worth and Dallas. All I can say is thanks.

The Fort Worth Wings preceded the Fort Worth Texans.

TypePad kicks me off the Big Mac Blog articles with a javascript when I'm in FireFox. Safari is working ok however. I thought I was banned. Maybe I am.

Thanks for the mention Mac! We are very proud of our Brahmas and we encourage all Fort Worth residents to come out Friday night and cheer our boys on. Its a very loud and electric place to see a game. Going for another Presidents cup championship this year.
