Dallas Mavericks 2012 playoff slogan: "Who knows? Maybe we'll get lucky ..."

Kevin-DurantActually, your defending NBA champion Dallas Mavericks' playoff slogan is "All In". Ironic because in the shortened offseason their management was anything but all in for this season.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are going with "Team is One" for the playoffs.

The Spurs? Don't appear to have one, but something like, "We're the only team in this town, we win a lot, and we don't need no stinkin' gimmicks".

The Lakers are slogan-less. Usually "We're the Lakers and You're Not" works.

The Clippers are going with, "What Do We Do Now?"

The Nuggets could use, "This Is Going To Be Quick".

Your Mavericks are the seventh seed, and  will face the NBA's scoring champion in former Texas star Kevin Durant. Game 1 is Saturday night in OKC at 8:30 p.m. CT.

If you don't recall, the Mavs defeated the Thunder in the West Finals last spring. The teams are just a bit different this year. The Thunder won the season series, 3-1.

12/29/11 OKC, 104-102 in OKC Here is the ending of that fun game:

1/2/12 Mavs, 100-87 in Dal

2/1/12 OKC, 95-86 in Dal

3/5/12 OKC, 95-92 in OKC

Dirk-Nowitzki1The Mavs have a chance if:

a.) They can rebound with the Thunder. In the four game series, the Thunder out-rebounded the Mavs, 44.8 to 39.8. This stat has to be at least even for the Mavs.

b.) Durant is going to get his, but Thunder guard Russell Westbrook must shoot a lot, and miss. This worked in last year's playoffs as Westbrook was a black hole. Westbrook averaged 22.8 points on 39% percent shooting against the Mavs this season.

c.) Dirk is the best player in the fourth quarter. Dirk's biggest transformation last spring was his ability to become the best player in the fourth quarter of every playoff game. If he is driving and attacking the rim, the Mavs have a shot. If he is settling for off-balanced jumpers over 6-foot-3 defenders, no way.

d.) Prayer. Who knows? Can't hurt, right?

PREDICTION: This happens with all good young teams as they grow: They go "through" some veteran team en route to the top. The Thunder have been through the playoffs now, got their teeth kicked in, and are mature enough to defeat a Mavericks team that just is not the same as one year ago.

The Mavs are older, tired, and clearly are fighting a case of "Been there, done thats". These guys know the score. Last year's team had energy whereas this team appears to be fighting itself to be interested.

Thunder in six.

Mav's Man

No way the Mav's see the second round, unless they buy a ticket. One and done. Here's hope we get young in the off season

I am uncomfortabley good looking

Let's be honest. We had an 'ok' regular season. We are way too old to play a compressed schedule and Dirk is great but no way can he carry us to another NBA Finals this season. We need a massive infusion of youth. Too bad. So sad. See ya next year.

Roadkill

Hold onto your hats kiddies. The NBA playoffs are coming and my Mavs will be ready. The champs are still the champs until they lose. And in the NBA it's high noon, guns blazing, and my boys balling up. So far all you haters, nay sayers, and people with no faith it's time to get real. Dirk and company brng like nobody's business. It's impossible to forget what they did to King James & Wade. The boyz from south beach know better than anybody that the Mav's can do it bigger and better than anybody. So strap on your boots and pack your bags, it's time for my Dallas Mavericks to make some history and lay down some serious hoop-ology on us all!!!!

Mav's Playoff Theme Song

Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where's the street-wise Hercules
To fight the rising odds?
Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and I turn and I dream of what I need

I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night
He's gotta be strong
And he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light
He's gotta be sure
And it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life

Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach
There's someone reaching back for me
Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat
It's gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet

Up where the mountains meet the heavens above
Out where the lightning splits the sea
I could swear that there's someone somewhere..Watching me

Through the wind and the chill and the rain
And the storm and the flood
I can feel his approach
Like the fire in my blood

I need a hero. I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night

Blue Star loves the Mavs. Bet the farm on it.

Don't give up on the Mav's yet. They are a looong way from done. They have been there and won it. Don't under estimate a champion. Dirk still has it. Jet can get hot. And this team can play anybody and win a 7 game series.

I love my Mavs and would love to see them in the Finals but even if they get there Bron Bron is going to tear their head off. LeBron is on a mission and I don't think the Mav's getting in his way would be good. Hopefuly they can get better and younger in the off season. As long as Dirk is healthy they have a shot at the title.
