One year later and no Heisman trophy candidates from or in Texas

San+Jose+State+v+USC+9tZAAxduFIAlThe NFL is littered with quarterbacks who grew up in Texas (Andrew Luck, Matthew Stafford, Robert Griffin III, Andy Dalton, Drew Brees, Kevin Kolb, Ryan Tannehill, Christian Ponder are just the starters) it looks as if there will be no Heisman trophy from this state in 2012.

Last year, the top two finishers were Baylor's RGIII and Stanford's Luck, who is from Houston. University of Houston QB Case Keenum also received votes as well.

This season it would be hard to find a legit Heisman candidate among the likely list of top players:

Matt Barkley, USC, QB (he may have actually already won it and we don't know it)
Collin Klein, Kansas State, QB (Don't laugh - he deserves to be here)
Marcus Lattimore, South Carolina, RB
Aaron Murray, Georgia, QB
Landry Jones, Oklahoma, QB
Montee Ball, Wisconsin, RB
Denard Robinson, Michigan, QB

The best bets for a guy who is from a Texas school or has a Texas-tie to make a run at college football's best BCS offensive player award are:

* Knile Davis, Arkansas, RB (he is from Missouri City, Texas)
* Malcolm Brown, Texas, RB
* Casey Pachall, TCU, QB

Purple Froggy

Unless Casey has a MASSIVE HUGE year; he ain't it. The drug scandal is only going to get bigger. No way he escapes that dark cloud.
