In what may go down as the single greatest American tragedy of 2012 - Hostess, the maker of Twinkies and Ding Dongs and all sorts of other highly caloric baked good, is going out of business.
Turns out the company is giving a giant middle finger to the unions that staged a strike that really did a number on the business.
Since 1930, Hostess has been pumping Americans full of yummy chemicals and food products could out-live the average man.
Much of the focus of this loss is on Twinkies and Ding Dongs. If you hurry now you can load up on Twinkies, and still make this Twinkie Pie recipe from Paula Deen. I did make this a few years ago - imagine eating a Twinkie, with whipped cream, and then washing it down with a 44 oz. glass of sugar.
While the departures of those wonderfully awful brands from grocery stores is sad, lost in this is the fact that Fruit Pies and Zingers will be no more.
The yellow frosting on the Zinger may be one of the more underappreciated dessert treats available for $1.29.
Somewhere you know Little Debbie is smokin' a bit fat cigar and getting ready to go streaking through the quad.
