When in D.C., be sure to hit Ben's Chili Bowl

IMG_1745WASHINGTON, D.C. - It says something about a place when it costs more to park your car than it does to actually eat.

$20 to park.
$11 to eat at the famous Ben's Chili Bowl in Washington D.C.

Click here for Ben's Chili Bowl website.

Made famous by comedian Bill Cosby and countless celebs and politicans who have dined here, this charming greasy spoon offers an extensive breakfast menu but is known more for its chili dogs.

I ordered Bill Cosby's Original Chili Half-Smoke with fries. It's a 1/4-lb. pork/beef sausage on a warm bun opped with mustard, onions and spice homemade chili sauce. Solid score. The bun is fine, and it does not take away from a spicy dog and chili. This is as good, and spicy, of a chili dog as I have ever had. The fries were fine - nothing special. The star of this show is the chili dog.

IMG_1744The staff was friendly, the ambience feels like a diner should in the northeast. Decorations are pictures of famous people eating at Ben's, including President Barack Obama's visit and French president Nicolas Sarkozy.

If you are in the D.C. area, this is worth the visit.
