Just when you thought 'Stupid' could not get any stupid-er, the International Olympic Committee has come through.
Badmitton? Keep it.
Wrestling? For the love of God, absolutely not.
The sports up for elimination were wrestling, modern pentathlon, taekwondo and field hockey. Wrestling is dumped over the modern pentathlon? What the stupid ...?!
I have understood the IOC's decision to drop baseball and softball from the Olympic games, even if I didn't agree with the move. It's a game that is played in a small number of countries, and the costs aren't cheap.
Wrestling's costs are small - just a mat and you're ready to go.
Don't give me TV ratings; no one is watching these sports anyways. It's about the participating, and in this case should be about the tradition.
Wrestling has been in the modern Olympics since 1896 in Athens, Greece; the sport gave the Games some of its greatest moments. You didn't have to following wrestling to appreciate American Rulon Gardner's stunning upset of Russian giant Alexander Karelin in the 2000 Syndey Games in Greco-Roman wrestling.
But the crooks who run the Olympics have determined wrestling such moments can come from field hockey and modern pentathlon.
