SAN DIEGO, California - From the outside, all of the neccessary ingredients exist at Cafe 222 in dowtown San Diego but one: The health department does not have any need to visit this place for an inspection. As a general rule of thumb, more visits from the health inspection means it's a good place to eat.
Located a few blocks from the water, Cafe 222 is a popular spot that became more popular when Bobby Flay visited and named the "Peanut Butter stuffed French Toast" as one of the best things he's ever consumed.
Peanut Butter Stuffed French Toast ... I gained three pounds by writing it, and an additional four after eating it. For the record - it's good. The peanut butter and bananas are pushed between the wheat bread and once you are done smothering it with some butter and syrup you will not have the need to eat for another month.
The restuarant is located in a pedestrian friendly area of downtown SD, and the ambience is efficient. There is outdoor seating, a second-floor "patio" and some inside by the kitchen as well.
The menu is loaded with good options, but it only offers turkey bacon. Why even bother? If it's not a pig, don't bother with bacon.
Peanut Butter Stuffed French Toast is worth the visit, and it may be the world's best french toast.
